Test night shot
Posted By: Darius4522, 03-18-2007, 04:41 PM

Just a test night shot. I forgot my tripod, so it was hand held @ 1/2 a second @ f3.5 with the K10D's anti-shake turned on. I was quite pleased with the result, especially the anti-shake.

John,

This was shot really well, but I think your jpeg viewer isn't resizing the picture well because I see a lot of artifacts.

Want to send me the full size 3MB file to my email address so I can take a quick peek?

I like the picture, but to me it looks like the ISO might be set at 400 or higher when it should be set to the lowest setting for night photo's

edit, instead of a tripod you can always use the roof of your car or just about any clean dry stationary object.

Thanks. The ISO was 400. Unfortunately it was a very hot night (about 90 deg) and I had my dog in the car, so it was literally a 30 second snap before the poor pooch expired from heat.

I guess was more concerned about taking it when the sky was the right color - a dark navy blue - as previously I had been taking the shots too late when the sky looked black and dirty. So the sky color was my first priority rather than anything else.

Yep....have used cars and posts before, but I was also interested to see how the anti-shake worked at 1/2 a second.

I'm very impressed especially for a hand held shot. The SR sure is a nice feature, and has saved me many times over

And I found out about the ISO the hard way, so that's how I came to that conclusion.

You must have some steady hands! Anything I try to hand hold for 1/2 second looks like an abstract!

xfraser: I claim no credit for steady hands. The compliments, quite rightly, go to the Pentax K10D and its anti-shake system!

I would be pleased with the SR as well... But really, it looks horrible to my eyes. Can you describe your PP routine? I suspect something bad happened during the sharpening here.

Jonas..I stuffed up the jpg resizing...and that was my mistake....but as I say, I was not so interested in the technical aspect as I was in the light.

I'm sorry, I see now when re-reading instead of glanzing that Alvin should try to do something about the resizing.

Well, for the light, with a proper resizing we maybe can see the light... I saw some great pictures at your site (and to that from places that are exotic to me). The picture you posted here can't compare at all.

No need to apologise, Jonas. The shots I have posted in PentaxForums are basically test shots with my new K10D, so people who know better than I can assist me *smiles*. The shots on my website were taken with a Panasonic. And I'm heading to India in 5 days to shoot photos in a remote part of Assam.
