24 hour race-early morning
Posted By: mingdie, 03-19-2007, 03:04 AM

Got up early to take a few photos of the 24 hour laser race we have in Auckland every year. Two in each crew that takes turns to race the boat for 24 hours. Took these at 7am when the crews have been sailing for 17 hours. Not much wind but a wonderful morning.

Cheers

Ahhhhh! Sailing! Eddie these shots made my heart smile! Especially now, as I look outside and see 5 inches (13 cm) of snow on the ground! Too bad there wasn't much air, those boats look like they can scoot! Is it a regular triangular course?

NaCl(sailing is as much fun as photography, but if you thought LBA was bad...)H2O

Interesting shots (I particularly like the last one) of an interesting concept for a race. For years I sailed a Sunfish, not as fast as a Laser but imparts the same numbness to the postier regions. 24 hours - wow!

Nice shots!

I'm trying to grasp how they manage to do this for 24 hours! Do they do laps around a harbour or is this in a lake? How fast can these things go? (doing a google as this is being typed).

I really like the last one, mostly because you got the whole boat in the picture. All I know is if I was racing for 17 hours I'd be sleeping at the bottom of the boat and you wouldn't get a very good picture!

Thank you for your comments. The third photo is the one I am most pleased with.
For Alvin and Xfraser. It is two sailors that take turns to sail around a 3 legged course. It is sailed on a lake to avoid collisions with other boats in the dark. A great event with a lot of spectators.

Cheers
