she's beautiful. I would have her right eye in focus instead of her left eye. Her right eye is closer (to the camera) so my eye keep going back to the right eye, otherwise i would prefer to have her whole face in focus since there's no distracting objects in the background. But wat do I know, haven't even really have a crack at portraiture or anything at all yet. I like the BW conversion too.

I agree about focus on the right eye. It doesn't feel quite natural as it is.

But maybe that's what makes it interesting - the focal point is unexpected.

Hi Taff,
that is different and very easy on the eye. I can see this series is going to be very interesting.

I like how it looks Taff but I can't put my finger on why.

I think maybe because you would expect the near eye to be the one in focus it tricks the brain and makes it seem back to front.

Mind you, it's lucky she looks good in or out of focus otherwise it might have been your last post.

HI guys, thanks for the comments,
I understand your points in regards to the out of the ordinary focusing, this is my point

We often follow the rules for photography because that's what works, but so often its the opposite that works equally as well, if not better. And the more I take photo's the more I try to do what pleases me rather than the critiques. I thoroughly enjoy critique mind you, but it is not that which drives me to make a good picture.
With the dark space on the right, I thought that by focusing on the left eye it would even out the composure. Firstly I see the OOF eye, which draws me into the picture looking for the focal point, I find this selective focus pleasing in this image.
But then next time who knows.

I rather like it, focus on the far eye and all. This is obviously not a typical portrait, so I don't know why so many folks want to restrain it the "rules" of typical portrait photography. I say, conventions be darned when it comes to your own artistic vision!

That being said... I do feel the subject (the eye in focus) is a bit centered in the composition. I think a different framing could have made this work stronger. And, a slightly more dramatic lighting could have brought out the mood a tone more, as I find the lighting somewhat flat.

Happy shooting!
