A lucky shot
Posted By: ovim, 01-09-2009, 07:01 AM

I already posted this on the "Takumar club" but i liked it so much I decided to post it here too.

I've been practicing manual focusing with my Takumars and my two kids are a challenging subject because they never stay still. The other night i took about 60 shots of them, and this one really stood out. Shot in ambient lighting @ISO1600.

Thank You too. I know when I'm looking at pictures of my own children I see them a little different than others. But this time I knew that It'd be a nice pic even with someone elses kid in it

I was just trying to focus as he moved around and kept firing and just got lucky I quess. I tried B&W quickly in Lightroom but didn't like it as much as this version. Maybe I'll try it again.

BTW I shot this with a Takumar 1.4/50mm which I bought from Ebay as defective. I took it apart and cleaned it and added two small screws which were missing. Now I'm soo happy with it!

Yes, it's a good shot. For me, the reason is the concentration showing on his face. His attentive look attracts my interest.

Dan.

Hi ovim,

You can call it lucky, but the person who wasn't trying didn't get as great a shot!

Have you considered adjusting the white balance on this shot? Your focus and composition are really great, and the ambient room lighting gives a great effect. But to my eyes, the shot appears to have a color cast. I took the liberty of downloading it and adjusting the white balance a bit, and think I've gotten some good results. With your permission, I'd attach it here. Let me know if you would like to see it.

Great shot, looking forward to more pics!

By all means, I'd like to see what you've done with it. Actually I've already adjusted the white balance a bit because my Takumar has a heavily yellowed rear element. Especially everything shot under tungsten lights comes out very yellow.
