Sky over the Saint Lawrence just before a major storm : MD 28 mm, 50 mm, 100 mm
Lens: MD 28 / 50 / 100 mm Camera: Pentax K3 III Photo Location: Quebec ISO: 100 Aperture: F16

Environment-Canada is forecasting the coming of a major storm this Sunday and Monday. A quick drive to the shore of the Saint Lawrence permits one to admire a marvelous light show in a threatening sky near the end of the day (3h00 PM under our Northern latitudes).

I tried my Minolta MD 28 mm f/2, MD 50 mm f/1.4 and MD 100 mm f/2.5 prime lenses mounted on my Pentax K3 III via a Fotodiox adapter. All 3 lenses were stopped-down to f/16, as a smaller aperture seems to conceal any defects of an optic mounted on this glassed adapter.

The 28 mm gathers very nice colors showing the entirety of the scene. The 28 mm and the 50 mm can be made to flare a little with a blue ghost on one side of the image, so the photographer has to be careful to avoid this unwanted artefact. The 100 mm has a built-in sliding lens shade that eliminates all ghosting when shooting against the sun.

All 3 lenses prove to be extremely sharp, with very warm color rendering and high contrast. The MD 28 mm f/2 is particularly impressive.

Great set of images shot with each one of the lens. Great colors and detail from all three. The ghosting appeared to be on the 28mm to me, but really does not detract from the image. Hope the weather is not too bad.

You had quite an enjoyable time with those lenses, and got some good images.

THX !!

Well, I have grown more demanding of the performance of my optics over the years and my old Minolta MD lenses are not up to par with my "strict standards" regarding flare resistance.
Twenty five years ago, coatings were in their infancy. Seeing those blue blobs in my "against the light" pictures makes me somewhat disappointed.
I just mounted my Pentax HD DA 16-85 mm zoom back on my K3 III and I will return to the Minoltas only from time to time.
