I found an old Pentax A 1.4X - S converter on eBay for 20 $ ... Super sharp !!
Lens: FA* 85 mm f/1.4 Camera: Pentax K3 III Photo Location: Quebec ISO: 200 Aperture: F11
Posted By: RICHARD L., 02-12-2024, 08:47 AM

The first image was taken with the FA* 85 mm f/1.4 only at 1/500 sec @ f/13. I added the Pentax A 1.4X-S converter, selected ISO 200 and took the second picture. I turned and shot the Norway Maple with the FA* 85 mm + A 1.4X converter. At medium apertures, the converter has no degrading effect whatsoever. You lose Autofocus but it is a good 20 $ investment, I think.

Good sharp images, Richard. My failing would be in the manual focus. I was never very good and was happy to get auto focus cameras. Nice shooting.

That's a fantastic find as they usually go for $100 and up. If you ever get tired of using it let me know

Good show! Manual focus is more satisfying and exact I find. With the trend to mirror-less there are many bargains in the market. I purchased a Pentax K-01 and two great lenses for $50.

THX everyone !!

You can make great finds on eBay with a little luck. Most reviews say this converter is not very performing, yet it should be used only for lenses up to 200 mm. I also use middle apertures which help sharpening images and this FA* 85 mm is really sharp just by itself to begin with.

Regards
