Darters at a distance
Lens: Pentax A SMC 400mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: Yerrabi Ponds, Gungahlin, ACT, Australia ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F13.5

So took the beast out to try again at my nemesis. This is a semi dead tree on the other side of the lake that is a favorite roost for cormorants and darters. In the past I have tried the standard viewfinder eyepiece, and a tenpa magnifying eyepiece - 1.35x. In this try I used a tripod and liveview. In all cases birds at the top of the tree tend to be soft and I get better pics at the bottom of the tree. The first picture is the top of the tree, the second the bottom. The third picture shows how far the tree is away. Remember this is a 400mm prime.

Good shooting. It looks like your tripod helps with these distance shots. Getting shots like these is difficult, hand held.
