The first one is iffy and his eyes are hard to discern and the image is bit crowded, But the last three are just great!

Tight shots. What's your setup? Agreed on the last one being precious.

Superb shots! Excellent...

To be fair to Wildman, birds with black plumage and black eyes are perhaps the toughest to get exposed correctly (Green Jays come to mind). It's not an easy task, and the light must be just right to have definition/separation between the black eyes and black plumage.

I agree about details on the setup... I recall you or someone else discussing the setup with the telescope and all of the specifics/suggestions for using it. Can you provide some links to those discussions or summarize the entire thing one more time please?

Again, great images!

Regards,
Marc

In stead of a time consuming long-winded explanation I would be glad to answer any specific questions. Bare in mind that I have 5 scopes that I use and all are more or less setup for a specific application. Also I am not a gear head. After 50 years of photography my knowledge is mostly empirical - I just know what works but I can't always say why. My main interest is the image not the gear.

This is one setup for close focus work (under 20 feet) for fast moving passerines that are constantly moving in and out of the narrow field of focus - I can instantly increase or decrease the extension by 60mm this way. This setup also happens to have a barlow installed (something like TC to you telephoto people) giving me an equivalent of about 1000mm FL (30x). The second picture, the Purple Finch, was taken with this setup but with the DL not the K20D and without a barlow (16x) if memory serves.

Wonderful series! The warbler and oriole shots are my favorites. Is the first image a Myrtle?
