Which Crop? (Canyon Yellowstone park)
Posted By: bwield, 01-22-2009, 01:06 PM

I would like some opinions on which version is better.
The original or the cropped?

(ive adjusted the feathering at the Horizon to get rid othe line)

Original

Cropped

Of course, this has to be the first one. So nice that atmosphere it renders

The original is much better, IMO.

I prefer the first one. What's up with the horizon, though? A hard-edged filter or something else?

What a beautiful scene...

I would love to see that in person.

I prefer the 1st one... but they are both really nice.

Call me weird, but I prefer the second. In the first on, there are some blown out clouds near the top of the sky that look like you tried to burn them in, but only made an even-toned gray area. I find them distracting. Otherwise, I think the comp's better with the first crop.

There's something weird going on with all of the edges in the photo. Check out the far left edge, for example. Looks like a double exposure or something.

I prefer the cropped one as I find too much of the same water and rock detail on the bottom of the first one... It's a very nice pic, would like to see in colour though

Hey, where'd you get my photo :P (I got almost that shot back in September a year ago, but mine's in color and has a tree branch in the upper right corner...I think I was standing back a bit more from the edge...don't really like heights...)

I think I prefer the cropped version. The slightly blown out clouds distract my eye a bit, and I think the crop is a nice compromise. I do like the black and white, would be nice to have a bit more direct sunlight on the falls themselves though. Good photo

The second crop is better, it leads the eye into the river and hold it there, inviting closer inspection of the clift details. The first draws the eye all over, especially into the clouds.

The colour shot for me...every time.

That is a very accurate reproduction of what is there. Congratulations.
