Sigma 150-500mm B&W
Posted By: Fl_Gulfer, 01-25-2009, 12:28 PM

I been trying to figure out how to convert JPEG to B&W in Elements 6. This is all I could figure out. As you can see all I could figure out to do is move the Saturation slider. I'm sure there is another way that is easier.

I took these 2 shots yesterday with my new Sigma and the K20d but I didn't save the photo's to convert them in camera.

I think you should mail this lens to me, let me play with it for say 2 years then I will run a whole punch of B&W's with it and forward with comments! There are a few ways to switch to B&W in elements 6 . go to Enhance in the toolbar, clinck down and there should be a tag that says "convert to B&W or in the same draw down hit color adjustment and then hit remove color. I do mine in Lightroom first then switch over the elements. There are great B&W adjustments, IMO, in Lightroom. Good luck with the new lens and if you need my address to send to over.. You can always get better conversion starting from RAW file, but you knew that already did you?

Don't know about Elements, but the usual tools I use after the basic turning to B&W are adjusting the Brightness/Contrast and/or Shadows/Highlight settings. I use saturation only if I end up to monotone photo where I want to control the selected colour saturation. Hope I am on right tracks concerning your actual question?

The tyre shot has a lot of interesting texture in it. I like that one in particular.

I am using Element 5, so this may not apply, but under "Enhance" you select "Convert to Black and White.

The keyboard short cut for this is "Alt" "Ctrl" "B" which should work no matter what version you have.
