I am new here and have seen so many great photos of all sorts of subject matter, but not very many guitars. As an avid guitarist, I enjoy taking pictures of my guitars. They usually sit very still for a portrait and are patient with all my camera tweaking.
Keep in mind, i play the guitar better than i take pictures. I am just 3 weeks into SLR photography, a complete newbie.
I just got an M 50mm f/1.7 this week and set up some shots of a few guitars using just indoor light and some natural sunlight from the adjacent room. I had to move the guitars around a bit to minimize the room reflections in the lacquer.
I was using f/2 and f/2.8 for the most part 1/8-1/4 sec shutter, 200 ISO. I do not know what settings are ideal, so just experimenting at this point. Any suggestions on how to make them better are always welcomed. Should i aim for a brighter room and smaller aperture?
