My First Experience with DSLR
Posted By: pradeepr, 01-31-2009, 05:21 PM

G'Day all,

This is one of the photos I have taken during my holidays.

Please let me know all the rights and wrongs on this photo.

I am keen in learning and will appreciate any suggestions regardless of importance.

Thanks very much

Good to see your first post, mate. I like the layered composition leading the eye easily from foreground to background, with something of interest in each layer. The posts in the foreground have an ancient feel to them, almost as if they were broken stone columns from an earlier age. I'd quite like to see a b&w conversion.

Was this shot in RAW?The photo could do with some sharpening and levels adjustments. Do you have post-processing software?

Nice start. I Look forward to seeing more.

Hi Pradeep,

welcome to the forum.

Very Nice series. Couple of observations- your sensor has dust and it needs a clean. some of your images might need some sharpening.

Thanks
Suresh

Welcome to the forum Pradeep, nice photos.
Just a word of advice, you will get more responses if you actually imbed your pictures into your post. Five is a good amount to post at at one time.

Thank you all for the comments.

The comments are very encouraging.

Damn Brit.. I will post some photos on the thread itself on my future threads.

Suresh.. I didn't notice that there was a mark on the UV filter, I was able to clean that up.

Wombat.. yes I shoot in raw I will try to do some sharpening and see how I can improve the photo.

I always love learning new things..

Thank you all again for your comments.

Indeed there are some great shots in the series. The peacock is awsome as well as some of the shore landscapes. A couple of them have a few spots - might ne sensor dust or dust on the lens. Well done.

Lots of very good photos on that page. My only criticism is the dust on the sensor. I enjoyed them.

There are some good ideas and results in there. I think some of the framing could be better in some of them - e.g. Jindabyne bottom right-hand corner doesn't really work for me (and the horizon is on a slant), topofmountain Bermagui seems a little too tight on the tree trunk.

Apart from that and the dust spots which have already been mentioned the colours are great, the compositions, as a whole, have a good feel about them, and the contrast is punchy.

All-in-all I'd be happy to have some of those shots in my album.

HouseofHorla,

Thanks very much that was really helpful.

Will try to improve as much as possible.

Am waiting to take some shots of Deniliquin where I live, will be able to post them sooner I hope.

Thanks again.
