Samples from my first Product Shoot
Posted By: Buddha Jones, 01-31-2009, 06:08 PM

Here are some of the shots that I came up with for my clients website, The Prettiest Pearl. She is a jewelry maker that specializes in pearls, obviously, which are harder than crap so shoot because I haven't figured out yet how to get ME from reflecting in them. I am going to have to do some research and some PP as a result, but here are some of the concepts that I came up with. All were shot in a lightbox with a black velvet backdrop and continuous lighting and K10D on a tripod. I had to use my DA*50-135mm with a set of Bower Macro Filters on it because I sold my macro lens before I realized that I needed it. (My hands are dead and cold)

There are some others but I think these are my best examples. If anyone knows how to stop getting myself reflected into the image, please let me know. Thanks to everyone who assited me in one way or another with advice and/or links to advice.

A TRIPLE STRAND WITH QUARTZ CRYSTALS ON A HALF SHELL

TURQUOISE EARRINGS IN A HAL SHELL

Hi Buddha,
My father in law did this sort of work for a living over many years. I used to watch him set up in his studio and noted that he always gave everything a spray with something just before shooting.

I asked what he was spraying on and it was some sort of substance that dulled the reflective surfaces...next question was why? answer was to reduce/kill the reflection of which you speak. Dont ask me what it was called, but i guess it would be well known in professional circles.

Cheers.

Very nice shots, how about using a remote or using the built in timer so you can get out of the way?

Funny thing is I was using a remote as to avoid camera shake, never thought about getting out of the way. What a maroon!!

Ever think of shooting through a sheet with a small hole cut out for the lens to poke through. I used that technique once when I was shooting windows.
