Bay Area Backroads
Posted By: xs400, 02-02-2009, 10:49 PM

Besides photography, my other hobby is motorcycling. When the weather is just right, there is a 75 mile loop I like to ride on the San Francisco Peninsula. Some of the roads I take are a secret I rarely disclose to others. On this short ride, I see the ocean, farms, redwood forests, and empty, lonely back roads. Not what people expect to find so close to 'civilization'. Here are few pics from my ride on Sunday.
All shots: K100D + A 28mm

It's an absolutely beautiful area Frank, and I'm glad you reminded me of it. I once drove/wandered all the way up from the Felton area on intuition - never touched a straight piece of road - great drive...

And hey, I've been in that pullout too ...

Oh so nice Frank. That IS what motorcycling is all about...to me anyway.
Great scenery masterfully captured.

Great scenes. Really like no-2 and 3. The cow photo is just superb, blue, blue, yellow and large expanse of green. With the cows, it is a simple but awesome pastoral scene.

Beautiful scenery! I'll be out in that area for a job interview later this month - I may have to check that area out! I'm also curious if that pic is from Pt. Reyes. :-)

The shot of the cliffs is not Pt. Reyes. It was taken from Highway 1 on the San Francisco Peninsula, about 35 miles south of San Francisco, near the small town of San Gregorio. Pt. Reyes is north of San Francisco.

Here are few more pics. These were actually taken in March 2008, but these are shots from the same roads I was on last Sunday. This is pretty much how things looked on Sunday, as well. Clear sky, warm weather, and there was almost no one on these little know roads.

ah, that was gonna be my next guess.
I looked it up on Google Earth and sure enough, i found that same spot - look at the satellite image (with 3D terrain added). cool!
your photo is infinitely better, of course.

here is yours again:

Hey... That's mine - Frank's was way better looking than mine (what can I say hazy day, DA 18-250, inexperienced photographer, lackluster post processing)... Frank's was better for sure.

Amazing how recognizable the Google rendition is...
