B&W versus Color
Posted By: Jimbo, 02-08-2009, 12:43 AM

Ok, I have shot this bridge a few times with most getting converting to B&W. I shot these today and left one colored well converting the other to BW... Not sure which one suits this image. JIM

Wow Jim, that is almost a toss up... I am lucky it's not me having to choose... Personally IMO the color wins by a small margin. It's the very, very subtle colors that do it.

Rationale: the B&W is striking in it's contrast, but my eye tends to dwell less on things around the bridge. The color allows your eyes to slowly soak in the subtle color shifts above and below the bridge. Both are great though.

Does that help?

Regards,
Marc
Yes it does Marc. I have been leaning towards the colored too for these same reasons. I have printed another B&W shot of these bridge so maybe having a color print will be a good match to hang together. I also did some Heron shots I wanted you to comment on. I may send you a PM. Hope all is going well and keep in touch Marc! JIM

The first shot works better than the B+W version.

Great set of images again, Jim

I am a B&W fan, and I have to say, the B&W is the one I prefer.

I'm currently on a B&W jag, but . . . . I really like the color shot better. Sometimes color shots, where the color is subtle and not blatant, are really effective. Yours certainly is.

Appreciate the review Jer. I am leaning towards the color as I have aB&W of this bridge hanging on my wall already. JIM
