2007 Shell Houston Open
Posted By: rfortson, 03-28-2007, 08:13 AM

Took a bunch of shots Tuesday at the SHO. It was the practice round, no admission and cameras are welcome. Still processing all the shots but here are a few of the better ones I got. All shots taken with the Pentax K100D and the Pentax SMC 300mm f/4.0 handheld.

Billy Andrade, 4-time winner on the PGA tour

Rich Beem, 2002 PGA Champion

Jeff Maggert, 3-time tour winner

Bernhard Langer, 2-time Masters Champion

Paul Azinger, 12-time tour winner and 1993 PGA Champion

Michael Campbell, 2005 U.S. Open Champion

Very nice

Very nice shots. The practice rounds are by far the best time to go a PGA event. I went to the PODS Championship at Innisbrook and they wont let you take anything inside except you wallet and maybe a watch as long as doesnt beep. The PGA has become obsessed withg not allowing celphones or electronics at any of their events.

You got some nice shots! I like Jeff Maggert's shot. You got him swinging and the ball in the same shot.

Hi Russ, that third shot is a "wall hanger" for sure. Good composition and interest.

Great shots!

The first 3 shots really captured the spirits. How far were you from the players?

Would love to see more

Since it was the practice round, you could get as close as you like. I'll post some more later.

As said by others, the Jeff Maggert shot is great. Considering the clubhead is traveling about 100+MPH, and the ball, even faster, who says Pentax cannot shoot sports!? Great shots.

I think I'm going to rework the Maggert shot to remove that bright object near his foot (I think it's a tee marker on another hole), and the gallery rope behind him.

Hi Russ, I don't find the gallery rope too distracting, but that bright object near his foot does take away from the shot. I thought it was a reflection off of a car mirror or some such. But what ever it's too big and too bright. I think the ball will stand out even more clearly with that blob eliminated.
