Emerging Rose Bush

These are nothing special, just the emerging new growth on my rose bush that I pruned back last Fall. I think some do have some interesting texture, though. All taken hand held with my Sigma 70-300, at 300mm.

Great concept having the sharp old thorns and the new delicate growth dynamically contrasted! #3, #4 and #5 are my favourites! Excellent colours!

I agrre with Georg. However, in order to improve your images, try shooting on overcast days (preferrably bright overcast) and that should reduce those unwanted dark shadows.

Gawan, thank you, I like the contrast too. JMR, you're right, an overcast sky or shade would certainly give more even lighting. However, in this case, I think I prefer the direct sunlight. The shadows give it character, I think, and the harsh lighting emphasizes the textures.
