Two Lenses And New Blossoms.
Posted By: Asad_Masede, 03-29-2007, 01:54 AM

Well, despite Vancouver weather's best efforts to keep spring away, seems like it's creeping in anyway. We got a few sunny days, even those were "interrupted."

Went out for a walkabout with a friend, took my K10D and two lenses, the 77 and DFA50 f/2.8 Macro along with the 540FGZ flash for macro use. Two of my favorite lenses. It's no surprise that I'm crazy about my 77, however, I never thought I'd cherish the DFA50 as much as I do now.

Only PP is some levels after converting in Lightroom 1.0.

Images are in descending order, according to how much I like them.

Last but not least...

Couple of obligatory bee shots:

I've never seen them do this before...

Should have focused better on this one but I like it nevertheless:

Comments, critique all welcome and appreciated.

Cheers,

Wow, Asad. All well captured with poetic elements.

Beautiful!

Among the three posts, I love all 5 in the first allotment. The first 2 shots with Fa 77 are also amazing.

You really enjoy playing with DOF. I really enjoy this style

Thanks! Glad you like these images, there's a ton more like these to shoot in the coming days.

I'm all about the DoF.

Great Asad.
I don't have the patience for flower shots as most days are windy but I love to look at them. Yours are exellent and the one that really stands out for me is no 2 in the second lot. The blue background pushes out the leafs and flower. I could look at that photo for a long time.

Cheers

Beautiful, almost impressionistic, photographs of nature.

Gorgeous way to start the day!

Hi Asad!

Absolutely lovely! I would have put the flower with the blue background first, but other than that my picks agreed with your ordering. They are all outstanding, though.

The bee is neat as well. Very detailed. Is that really a bee or one of those critters that impersonates a bee?

Thanks Asad for all the lovely flowers. Liked them all. I'm going to DC this weekend to visit family and shoot cherry blossoms (and other stuff too) You've given me some good ideas, and motivated me as well. Thanks for sharing.

Asad,

All of them are beautiful shots! Really liked the bee photos. I'm really scared of the things and other stinging insects, but they are my favourites, nonetheless.

How did you get so close to the bees?! Thats the 77mm right? That only converts to a view similar to a 105mm lens..which isn't much interms of telephoto.

Love those bee shots! I with Pete, how did you get the shots so close? Are they cropped at all?

Beutifull pictures of the flowers also. I like the DOF on the first few. Especially the first one.

Replies.

Thanks everyone for commenting. This is only the start, probably will be posting more as spring sets in.

mingdie: Thanks! Yeah, wind is the close-up photographer's worst enemy. Stay tuned for more images like these. :-)

Tom (borno): lol, part-termite is what I was thinking too, it looked very confused for some reason. Thanks!

Matthew Roberts: Thanks! Impressionistic... I like that, in fact maybe I'll try and emphasize that more in the future.

Tracy (photo_mom): Thanks Tracy! You're right, I basically forgot to add that blue background one to that list, even though, for me, it still wouldn't be at the top, but maybe 2-3 places down. And about the bee... lol I think it is a bee but one that's *really* confused.

NaClH2O: Thanks for the comment! Looking forward to seeing your blossom (and other) shots. :-)

Alvin: Thanks Alvin! I used to be scared to death of spiders, it seems now that photography has cured that to a good extent, every time a spider gets stuck in my kitchen sink it gets bombarded with flashes lol.

FotoPete: No, that was with the DFA50 Macro, the 77 can't possibly get that close without help from extension tubes etc. I did get pretty close though, the 50's front element was nearly touching it at one point. Thanks!

etrainer: Thanks! I guess the bee wasn't acting normally, which is why I got to get so close to it without a long macro.

Buddha Jones: Aah yes, the Pentax colours. Thanks!

Cheers!
