Japanese food + strange flare o_O
Posted By: Zav, 02-13-2009, 04:04 PM

Yum yum!
k-m + DA40, ISO 800

I have really strange flares on this second pic. Look like rice grains...which may suit well those rolls. It's the first time I see this, if anyone has any idea of what it is...please, speak!

k-m + Voigtlander 125, ISO 1250

It is the light from the ceiling reflecting on the soya sauce. You can see it on sharp sushi (light points).

By the way, excellent bokeh !

I like the first shot, the OOF background looks almost like a painting. The objects do look a bit weird though especially the OOF hand.

The flare in the second shot almost looks like a reflection. Was there any lighting off to the side or above that might have accounted for it?
Have you got another shot with more DOF to see if there are any clues?

Unforntunately, this is the only picture I have with the "rice grain - soya sauce" flare. I assume fs999 is right when speaking about reflection of the ceiling light on the soya sauce.
Anyway, thanks for your comments

That was my thought. Just plain old specular highlights...

The flare might have come from a few drops of water on the lens.

The first photo is very nice, nice out of focus background, nice colours and nice even lighting.
