Rust never Sleeps
Posted By: woof, 02-15-2009, 02:19 PM

The following set was just published in a local newspaper (City Population of 107,271 according to the 2000 census). Number one was the headliner last Sunday for the feature story about old rusting hulks and their (often sad) stories.

The other three photos appeared in the second installment this week. I was not paid, but the photos had a credit and they even put a little narrative that I wrote about these trucks.

Please feel free to add your own rust shots to this thread...

I like them all, especially the last two. I have seen some images of old rusting wrecks using the Orton technique. Why not give it a try. The almost pastel-like colours are a good candidate for the Orton effect.

Yeah. That's a cool idea.

Nice shots.

As a young boy I spent hours playing in some rusted junkers like these...

I love the what the snow adds to the photo story... We often see the rusty cars in normal spring / summer conditions, but the snow adds a certain cause and effect to the visual narrative.

The third shot of the Chevy really kicks in the old memories for me, as my grandfather (who I lived with) had that model when I was a boy. Possibly even the same color...

Congrats on the published series, well deserved.

I like the last two, particularly. Although they make me feel a bit sad - I'd like to see the pickup refurbished with a tuned small block under the hood.

Congrats on the published images Seaain, they are all good but IMHO #2 is the best.

Here is a bit of salt water rust on an not so old mooring cleat.

My brother has a '52 Chevy truck that is in better condition but just as much character as the ones in your series. Some people call his truck the Sanford and Son truck.
He has an extra grill if you want to replace one of yours.

I've just been pointed to this thread, so here's my rust. This is a monument made off (probably) Corten steel. Nice and rusty, facing the sea at the northernmost tip of mainland Netherlands.

What explanation would you prefer? The one about the human nature to mark such symbolic geographical points to assert a feeling of (often) nationalistic pride and being? Or the one about there being a couple of grand in the municipaly's tourism budget so they decided to create a 'landmark' to double the number of tourists to twelve per month?
