Night in the mountains, and ski shots
Posted By: paulpalf, 02-18-2009, 11:40 PM

A couple of weeks ago I spent a wonderful week at Sorcerer Lodge, a heli-in backcountry ski lodge not far from Roger's Pass, BC. Our last night was spectacularly moonlit, even though it was only a half moon.

The cabin:

k10d with Sigma 10-20@10mm, 15s, f4, ISO250

This panorama was 4 images, stitched with the free software "Autostitch".

each image from Sigma 10-20@16mm, 20s, f4.5, ISO250

We had some great skiing during the week, including a memorable day above the clouds on the appropriately named Perfect Glacier:

Tamron 18-250@18mm, f9, 1/1000s, ISO250

There are many more shots from this trip and others at my blog:

Man that looks like a great experience.
The panoramic "stitched" image is really great but the first one is a little too distorted which is distracting for me.

NICE

I skied Blanket Chalet a couple of years ago (just out of Revelstoke) and it was VERY similar. I had not heard of this hut. Thanks for the post

Especially like the first shot

I enjoy the first shot most of all. I especially like how the short focal length helps to lend a sense of motion to the clouds, and draws my eye to the cabin.

I wonder if with these long exposure shots there is a way to capture some detail in the moon, I guess through blending multiple frames. Anyway, nice job.

Excellent shots! The first one is so artistic! I love how the clouds make like a movement trail to the moon!

I just stumbled on this post and really was blown away by the images both here and on your blog. I really liked the account of your Lake Ann trip. I have only been through that area in the summer. Wow! What a difference a little snow makes!

Say...would you care to trade lives for a short while?
