Sledding snaps...
Posted By: heliphoto, 02-20-2009, 12:08 AM

Last friday we got a rare low snow here where I live (California Sierra foothills) so I had to introduce my boy to sledding (though I mostly called it skiing, and sat behind him holding him in a standing position - got to get him ready...)

Here he is after a run we did together (I set him back in after I got out)...

Let's go again daddy...

Solo run...

edit: As dugrant153 points out below (thanks!), these are all with the DA* 16-50. (and I added exif links)

I find this so adorable and i don't usually like "baby shots" xD Love #2. If there's no big tree shadow in the middle there I would definitely suggest a B&W.

Cool - it's the ears on the hat (and matching mittens) - they really peak the adorable meter. My own vote for the B&W treatment would be the third photo as it's a bit underexposed right now, but might do well in B&W. Glad you liked 'em... (btw... what's the "xD" mean in your comment??)

That's quite a nose there, picking out lens types off the screen like that - well done though, you nailed it.

Number three.

The joy of the sledder is evident. (Man, you and your DA*16-50 shots are killing me!)

Thanks Dale - he was having a pretty good time.

It's good to hear you think the lens looks good. It seems the worst thing about the *16-50 is the doubts you have from time to time... Not that I see anything wrong with the shots, but I just wonder - "am I missing something?"

The second one is priceless...

It does not get better as a family shot than that one...

I like no-2 and you should try brightening it up a bit to make the snow a more natural white. I like no- 2 because it tells a story and shows the environment of the boy and his sled ride. Looks so natural and joyful.

They are all touching. but I suspect the memory forged in the 2nd shot will live on for a long, long time to come. Easy to see why so many love their Da 16-50mm.

Ah, "xD" is a smiley like "=)". It's commonly used in Japanese anime fan forums as a form of expression over something cute. I don't usually use outside japanimation communities as I know most wouldn't get it. The photo was just so cute that my finger slipped

Thanks JMR - I think you would have liked the original exposure. I shot this RAW and it was a touch overexposed for me but I was able to recover it like this. It's probably that I used to work on skis / on snow six days a week every winter for 10 years, so I'm used to seeing snow through sunglasses or goggles, and seeing the details in the snow.

Gotcha - I figured it was an emoticon of some sort, but I didn't know it's meaning .
