Rock Balancing

I went shooting today and at the end of the day I came across someone who had balanced some rocks. I've seen a few rock balancing sculptures before and these were really good so I snapped a few photos. Once I got home, I got curious and Google'd rock balancing and read the Wiki on it. Apparently the guy I saw is a popular rock balancer named Bill Dan

Even after seeing it in person, I still can't believe balancing rocks like this is possible. There's a bunch of videos on YouTube showing him do the balancing as well

This was taken along the trail in between Fort Point and Crissy Field - closer to Fort Point near the fishing pier. After looking online at some other photos of his work, it seems like this area and Sausalito are his favorite spots.

Even with a slight wind they remained balanced, so maybe you're right

Yeah, it was pretty amazing to see them balanced like that. Definitely takes a lot of patience and skill.

My seven year old daughter does not understand how a triangle can balance on a circle.

For those in Vancouver, if you go out on the English Bay side of Stanley Park just up near Second Beach, there's a guy who does the same thing.

Very interesting to see.

Really interesting. Is there a religious component to the activity?

If meditative activity is considered religious (I know it is by some folks), then I would say it is. I've tried doing this for fun and you really have to be in the right frame of mind to "feel" how the rock is going to go on. Of course, I never managed getting past putting my first rock on top of another
