Boat and lighthouse at twilight
Posted By: JMR, 02-22-2009, 07:25 PM

An image from my slide collection of a moored boat deliberately counterposed as dominating and standing over the lighthouse in Toronto's Humber Bay park. Since I just finished another shot form Humber Bay park of Toronto's skyline in the fall, I decided to include it in this thread.

JMR, nice shots. I like the first one very much, because the colours come together so nice...

Both images are stellar. The first one looks like an ad for ferry holidays.

JMR, I love the first one. The large boat dwarfing the lighthouse - nice.

JMR, I simply love the first shot! It has so great colours, and the rhythm of blueish and white areas both in the boat and the light house (also in sky actually) make the composition so great!

Really nice work there JMR, I really like what you have done with them. Quite a coincidence that the logo of the company that made the hull is the same as your username.

Forgive me for saying so if I'm wrong but the horizon (and needle) look slightly tilted to the right, not much but just enough to be noticeable.

I - of course - love number 1. The kind of shot that could end up in Sail or Cruising World. Nice job, JMR.

Jer

Edit: I meant to also add that the star-shaped object forward of the sheer line indicates the boat is older '60's or '70's era C&C - fine boats. Unfortunately, the company keeps going in and out of business.

Thanks, a good observation.

Yep Gary, it's my boat, but unfortunately I sold it to lighthouse keeper because he wanted something larger than his lighthouse!
Yes the tower is about 1/2 degree off, but that always happens if you point the camera up or down, which I did to get a good composition. I will be posting a colour version in series of shots for Humber Bay park later on.

I personally prefer the second one as a favourite! I`m not so fond of the colours in the first one... But I guess that`s just me

Edit: I love the colours, it`s the effect I don`t like that much:/

Thanks. Obviously you know quite a bit about boats. Is it really larger than the lighthouse ;-)
