Fish becoming food
Posted By: Larsenio, 02-23-2009, 11:02 AM

Yes these are pictures of food soon ready to be exported to southern Europe and Africa. As a delicatesse or as an ingredient in a fish meal.
It`s from the coast of northern Norway and there are fish for hundreds of thousands of dollars in these pictures!

Very interesting images. I like them a lot.

I'm curious though, why are they hanging on racks outside like this? Is there a concern that wild animals could come along and eat the fish as they swing in the breeze? What species are they? Does it smell bad?

Thanks for sharing.

I can understand your questions It`s sort of strange that they`re hanging out in the wild, but this is a process of drying the fish to get them have a particular taste. There are cod, haddock and saithe, among with another species I don`t know the english word to...
There is actually a pre-timed (or what it`s called..?) canon to scare the seagulls and wild animals away. It just make a loud noise, and doesn`t fire any bullets

It smells err... special! It`s a smell and taste you have to get used to livin around these areas
It`s a delicatess, dried cod must be something of the best fish to eat around a firecamp in the summer or as an alternative with beer, instead of chili-nuts

Young kids that try to be urban, hates it, of course!

But as an ex-fisherman I got to like it.

Thanks for the interest by the way!

I like the second and third shots in particular. Reminds me of Corn frames in the Azores, where they hung corn much like the fish are hanging.

Creampuff; thanks for the comment, and -yes- the goat cheese is tasty

JMR, that was a funny comparisation, and I wasn`t aware of this, thanks for sharing I guess that`s a warmer climate the corn is hung...

Everyone else, thanks a lot for your kind words!
