Hey Gus, that first one is an incredible macro and the salamanders aren't all that bad either. :-) How big (or small) are these animals? I've never seen one like it.

Hi Heinrich

The little salamaders are about 5 inches long... the first shot is a young one and is only about 3 inches or so. When you turn over a log and see one, it almost looks like some kind of worm at first until you see their eyes and little tiny legs.

You only see them in the winter months here in California. Then they go underground once there area starts drying up. I read the live their whole life in a 3 meter area. There are a lot here this year. Every rock or board I turn over in the back yard has one or two under it.

thanks for looking...

Have a great weekend

Wow, there is so much pop in these images.

The 2nd shot reminds of something coming from alien environment. Outerspace creature

Well done!

Gus, I swear it looks like there is an eye in the joint of that bee's knee. Great sharp shots.

Hi all

Thank you everyone for the comments... In looking at these pics again. I really wish I would have taken that first shot of the little salamander without the flash. I dont know what I was thinking on that one? I guess I may have been concerned about getting a fast enough shutterspeed to freeze the action... the little guys can be blazing fast...

I should really try and shoot a nice series of these guys before they head underground for the spring and summer...

Nice shots.

All I could think of looking at those salamander shots was: "She turned you into a newt??"... "I got better"
