Flying low! (et une question pour Yves :) )
Posted By: ve2vfd, 03-01-2009, 12:14 PM

You just never know what might fly over your head!

I took those on my way to work saturday afternoon. I was on night shift.

Yves, question for you... I took those pics on Ile-Bizard in front the the fire station. There were 3 of those paraplanes flying towards north (so they were coming in from Pierrefonds). Were they allowed to be flying there considering we're barely 10km from Dorval airport?

Thanks Rense, the pics were taken with my DA 55-300 @ F8, ISO100. Late afternoon sun, no polarizer.

No PP colour ajustments, just a little bit of LAB lightness channel sharpening and cropping (and unfortunately a bit of resizing to make the pic fit!) The k20d produces some MASSIVE pics!

And you didn't use a filter of some sort on the lens? I really can't get my skies this blue, but probably this has to do with the old glass I use (which I really can't imagine...). Or, and this has a higher probablility, with my technique....:

Nope, no filters at all... only the lens hood that came with the DA 55-300. I even had the camera in auto white balance mode (which I do not do often as the pentax auto while balance isn't usually very reliable).

I think it may have a lot to do with the fact I took the picture in late afternoon (roughly 1 hour before sunset) on a really clear cold winter day (not a cloud in the sky at all).

roentarre ... you fly these things? wow... got to be courageous to go flying around on half a parachute and a ceiling fan strapped to your back

I'll admit it looked fun, but I can't imagine how cold it was up there! (temp was around -12C at ground level)

Nope, James doesn't fly those things, but my mate Richard is known to (as my son would say) strap a lawnmower to his bum, and WAIT A SECOND, that's him.

Your shots are superb. Must be the fact that it is -12C helps keep things sharp!

Last seen at 5m above the canola near my place:
