A gothic lolita
Posted By: dkittle, 03-04-2009, 08:15 AM

Sparkle Pixie is one of the in-demand alt models here in Toronto. Her blue hair is quite something and her easy manner and interesting look is quite something. We've built up quite a rapport, having shot together a few times now (including my first ever studio shoot that I totally botched!). I've also shot a couple of makeup parties for her as she's an outstanding makeup artist in addition to being a model.

So Pixie dropped me an IM one day just before Christmas and said something like, "Heyyyyyyyy, I gotta new dress, lets shoot". Well, who was I to say no!

We got really lucky and landed Taca Hair for the shoot. He did an amazing job with her hair and her extensions.

I ran down to chinatown the day before the shoot and picked up a few accessories. I thought the umbrella worked rather well.

Toward the end of our shoot, Pixie threw on some clothing from Zombie Queen.

I changed up the lighting in the middle of the shoot, using a small (18"x12") softbox along with the existing fill. I know the hand position turned out a little weird, but I liked the lighting on her face.

I've got a flash gallery of some of the better images from the shoot here:

And a blog entry explaining more about the lighting here (if you are interested):

Thanks for looking.

Great shots of a very pretty girl.

Sigh, I just find it a bit sad the "kids" of today think it necessary to "enhance" their looks by poking holes all over their faces.

Very impressive set of images. The colour and the mood are all very well done. Her gaze is the most interesting in the images.

Nice shots. Not fond of the "cold sores" look, though.

(Oh, and technically (per the book), Lolita was a specific example of a "nymphet", a particular sub-set of girls, and between 9 and 14 years old. But, unfortunately for Nabokov fans, in everyday use, the term has come to describe something else).

Indeed ragardless of one's opinions on holes (and for the record I am against it haha) - she is a lovely model and you have captured her essence well. Portrait photographs alway impress me as I well suck at it. Well done.
