Snow dune
Posted By: JMR, 03-04-2009, 09:35 AM

I really should not have given away the image by the title. I have versions of this sepia-toned and it looks just like a real sand dune. Anyway, the wispy part is actually blowing snow that I waited for. Taken on a simple country, of roadside snowmounds before they are affected by plows and cars, on a brutally cold day at the right angle and right time of the day. Then I ran into my warm car and slowly tried to stop shivering, brrr.

Edit- I am adding a few so as not to clutter the board. They are subtle and varied versions of snow dunes and ripples, to show what can be done if you want to be creative.

Beautiful - I love the motion of the snow grain saltation in action. Outstanding shot!

I was going to say exactly the same thing as Georg.

Thanks. I guess you meant "use of light". And I hope you will take it simply as trying to help you with your English a bit.

Thanks. You must mean the vertical I took that had somewhat similar design but included many more snow dunes.

Yes, I think that is good characterization of the image. Thanks.

Thanks, musn't forget texture, born of light!

Beautiful photos. Number 1 & 3 I like best. Number two looks too much like snow and I have seen enough of it this winter! Your play on light is great.

No rotation. Look at the angles and where the oblique light is in the first, it is almost the same as the third. I just took a wider view. These were taken in Caledon by the roadside and main thing was to try and avoid the appearance of the road. Thanks for the comments.

Quite right, it does look so wintry. I was resisting posting the second shot, but I thought I might as well show the more subtle images. Thanks for the comments.

And indeed they are. They were taken by the roadside North of Toronto in Caledon because there is less traffic there.
