Sunrise - Grand Mayan Riviera
Posted By: daacon, 03-05-2009, 04:36 PM

We were facing east - much easier to catch a sunset but whatca going do ? The sun rises at about 05:10 am over the ocean there. I managed to get up two mornings to catch this and my wife joined in once. I did not have a tripod / monopod but did have a railing (from the pier) to hold the camera as steady as I could.

I think it was a morning well spent (with coffee and baileys of course) . Hope you enjoy.

Dave, these shots put me on "island time." The last one - with the ship on the horizon - is evocative.

The glow and formation of the clouds in the first shot does it for me. Good shots mate.

nice captures Dave, when are you taking me on a trip like that?

PS: I'd crop the 2nd one though, I think there's too much of the empty space above the clouds

Thanks Jer - I got a whole ship series to post yet - funny thing about the ocean there appears to be lots of boats

Thanks RBellavance - seems we were there about the same - may have passed each other on the road or on the street if you ever went into Playa Del Carmen (we went there for supper most nights).

Thanks Axl - iSoon as I win the lottery I's funny my Kids are now asking the same thing as Mom and I told them that could be the last one for them (unless they pay haha). Remains to be seen though (Daughter in University - Boy graduates HS this year) - Nice idea on the crop will give that a go.

Very nice shots.

It's always tough to get up that early on vacation but when you get photos like that, it's worth it.

Thanks Rense - it was not so hard to wake up - now getting out of bed and walking to the beach was harder but yep well worth it.

Dave,
Those are all great shots. They could be used in a travel brochure. Very nice.

Being with young children, we stayed on the resort (Gran Bahia Principe Akumal) except for the half-day trip to Tulum.
