Woman and dog take 2 + an extra
Posted By: pingflood, 03-05-2009, 06:41 PM

Well, I took some advice from this thread (and stupid me, uploaded the file and overwrote the original... but you can see part of the problem in Javier's edited version):
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/52237-lady-dog.html

And produced this final version. I went ahead and cropped much tighter (thanks Javier) and burned the bright area on top pretty severely to make it not stand out. I did maintain the softer contrast because it is more what I "saw" when taking the original picture. What do you think?

Also, here's another "street" shot I didn't post earlier.

I like the first image and what you call the softer contrast and the crop. Well bqalanced. When the contrast is as great as it is in these kinds of shots, more often than not, we expose for the bright areas and let the shade areas go black. Sometimes vice versa, but you have managed to save some detail in the foreground stones. Very nice.

To be candid, the exposure was more pure luck (and shooting in RAW) than skill in this case. I was carrying the 1Ds II with 15-30 for "serious" work and the 10D+35/2 for snapshots. This was just a quick fortunate capture with the 10D, and I think it was even done in program mode (my default since I can use program shift to effectively get Av or Tv mode).

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. That is quite an improvement. Infact I did not even notice the two folks on the right before. That just add more to the picture. Well done!

First image is fantastic. I didn't see the first version, but as it is now it is quite outstanding to me.

That first shot rocks!

I love the feeling from that image. Very sentimental in deed!
