Chairs are the soul of a house...

I know, I know... highlights are blow. That was pretty much intentional. C & C welcome, thanks for looking.

What a neat shot. Looks to be a 'Timeout' chair. Well done.

I like it quite a bit. It gets tiresome to read on many photo sites about alleged blown-out highlights. In some cases they are, in others they not only are not, but they often contribute to a scene in a way that enhances the overall feel of light and shadow. I feel this is that kind of shot. The light is strong but is allowed to play and intermingle with the shadow areas and still be visible. What is this powerful shot about? To me it even has a spiritual or other-world quality to it, as if there was once a person sitting in the chair that got enveloped by the light.

The light is surreal and fantastic. Great image there.

Thanks guys for your thoughtful replies. I thought about toning down the blown out highlights, but they really made sense to me for the moment captured. To me it tends to look a bit like the light is intensifying to a "peak" and so the moment seems to have a less than static feel to it. I am not sure how well this will print. Probably not all that well.

Your follow-on comments are very perceptive JMR. To me it is very much about Dad who passed in 2002. I'll just say that loss and hope are both deeply embedded in my motivations for this treatment of the shot.

Thanks again.

Great allegory, I love the simplistic style that supports well the title! Beautiful image as such also, Seaain!

I half expect Norman Bates mom to be in the chair.

The picture really tells a story.
