Sunset over St Kilda
Posted By: knumbnutz, 03-10-2009, 03:00 AM

Hi All,

After a lovely cloud free day we went for a drive down to St Kilda beach in Melbourne. Sort of the first time i had been there and some people at work said it was a bit of an icon for melbourne.

Anyways got a before and after Sunset pic, let me know if you favour one or the other or none or both.

Taken with K20D + DA*16-50

Cheers Neil

These work well! #2 with the lights is the better.

Number 2 with the lights for me Neil. Kirby's kiosk comes up well.

Number two.

The new Kiosk looks just like the old one, just less black and charred.

Two good shots, but I like the second best because the lights augment the sunset and highlight (pun unintended) the bridge in a way that the powerful sun does not. The first shot is good but the sun and its reflection seems to want more room to play in the foreground. As an alternate crop, I would suggest cropping out the foreground beach area and allowing the sun, sky and bridge to predominate. Not a criticism here, as I know one has to deal with what is there and not what one wishes. Just a suggestion for an alternate crop.

#1 is a nice shot when taken by itself. When compared with #2 however, I tend to agree with everyone else so far - #2 is the one for me.....

What other have said, but I also like them as a pair, first the sun light then the lamps along the pier!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I couldnt believe how late it was before they put the lights on, as you can see it was after the sun was well down over the horizon. i was hoping they would have been turned on before that and would have had the light on in both. Not to worry.

Sunrises and sunsets have been nice lately, light clouds everywhere, lots of beautiful colours. I have to get out and take advantage while it lasts.

Cheers Neil

I'll have to agree with everybody. They both are very nice but second one has that dreamy, romantic look in to it. Well done.
