Canyon de Chelly - White House Ruin (oldies again)
Posted By: Rense, 03-12-2009, 10:08 AM

Some more slide scans from our trip to the US in 2000. These are from Canyon the Chelly NM (AZ), and include two pictures of the White House Ruin.

Beautiful shots of an amazing place. The last one is awesome. I haven't been there for years, but your photos, Rense, make me want to head that way again.

I was at Canyon de Chelly a few years ago, but was not able to get that close to the White House ruins for the kind of shots that you shared here. You must have paid for a Navajo guide. I was too cheap for that and just did the half-day jeep tour. I got nice pictures, but all were taken from behind a section of barbed wire fencing!

Jer and Steve, thank you both! We took a day walking from the rim to the river and the White House, without guide. In my memory - for what it is worth - there was a fence round the ruins, but I can't really remember how close one could get. It is a beautifull place really.... I'd go back immediately if I had a chance!

Oh, so that is how you got so close! I have some pictures taken from the top where the trail goes down, but figured that I was too old and fat to go down and get back up! It is a long way down from the rim to the canyon floor!

Yeah, and it's even longer from the canyon floor up to the rim!
