2009 CIS Indoor Mondo Track & Field Championships
Posted By: SouthShoreRob, 03-14-2009, 03:22 PM

Event held here in my hometown of Windsor, Ontario. A measly ten bucks to get in, how could I resist? All photos taken with Pentax K20D, DA* 50-135mm, and @ high ISOs. Generally impressed with how my outfit handled the pressure, but found myself captivated by the machine gun sound effects of the Nikons and Canons nearby. I swear they were pumping out frames twice as fast; how accurately, who knows?

Anyhow, on to the action:

Shot Put

Triple Jump

High Jump

600m race

Pole Vault

4 x 400mm relay

Congratulatory hugs for final race of career

Lots more to see via my SmugMug gallery link below. Thanks for looking/commenting.

Very nice series of shots to give the flavor of the event. Who says you can't do sports with a Pentax? And how come those other shooters need so many images to get a good one?

Thanks Steve. I really had a blast giving it a go. Haven't shot indoor track since way back in the film days. This was a lot more fun, and I learned a lot for future reference.

Nice shots! I find the K20D and DA*50-135 to be the perfect combo for indoor sports. Your shots confirm it. Well done!

Excellent Series Rob - -that high jump and pole vault are just great. Who cares what other people use - I see nothing wrong with your set up.

Thanks Rfortson, Taff, and daacon for looking / commenting.

I agree, I don't care what they have, I was only referring to my envy of their higher FPS; lest I miss a key frame or otherwise important moment. After looking at some samples of the same event by the Nikon shooter - found them on Flickr - I believe I overestimated my ISO. I'm sure I could have gotten away with 1000 - 2000 instead of 2000-6400 that I opted for.

All in a day's fun, all in a day's learning.

Rob

Thanks pal, yeah for a guy with no press credentials, I think I did pretty good. That last one - right place at the right time. Does the WB look okay on your monitor? The first photo I went with AWB, but thereafter I used the fluorescent light setting.
