It was a hot day in the Grand Canyon (7 scans)
Posted By: Rense, 03-16-2009, 03:38 PM

I'm almost done with my scanning job....
These were made in the Grand Canyon in 2000. We made it from the south rim to the bottom (almost) and up again. Although it was a hot day, at the bottom it was okay. In the evening we had a fantastic sunset, which was hard to capture...

Hi Rense,
Great series, thanks for sharing.

I have been there a couple of times but time & company has never allowed any serious hiking.
I am very interested to know your thoughts on the hike....as in: how difficult? how much time to amble along taking photos? worth it? etc etc.
I note you said "almost to the bottom"...what did you mean by this?

Cheers
Grant

I have floated the river

I have been down the Colorado, thru the canyon 3 times... It was some of the best times in the first 1/2 of my life. Did you hike down to Phantom Ranch on your hike? I have never done the hike down though.

Thanks for the memories, keep em coming... it has been way to long for me. I can't wait till the girls are old enough to do a raft trip thru the canyon.
Someday...

Thanks Grant! The hike was not too difficult, but we are quite used to make long hikes, even from several weeks. I would definately go down there, and not only stay at the rim. The last thing is great for sure, but going into the canyon is such a different experience! And in the end we decided not to finish the hike completely and go to the Colorado river, because the next day we planned to go elsewhere and we did not want to get too tired. So, we did some 80% of the hike or so. And if you're planning to go down, the best hours are the early morning!

Gus, thank you. The hike down was great. But I would love to do the raft through the canyon, it must be great! You should take your girls there definately. One day....

Thanks! The Grand Canyon was one of the memorable places we visited during our trip to the US. One of the strange things there: I met a Dutch collegue from work there, totally unexpected....
