Posted By: Damn Brit, 03-16-2009, 08:58 PM

No sunset today but beautiful dark clouds over San Francisco Bay.
Five shots stitched together.

Nice work, Gary. The toning is very nicely done.

Gary,

Best bay view you have posted so far. I also like the natural sepia effect in the original.

Regards,

Ray

I'm with Kirk, I can't decide which one I prefer. And what's cool is .... there's no requirement to choose!

I like them both but prefer the second one. I bet these look really dynamic at print size!

The color version's nice too - very subtle tones in it - almost a natural sepia, so far I prefer the B&W, but a sepia treatment might be cool too. I find the red light out on Treasure Island and some of the other lights in the color version to be distracting... look like hot pixels.
Shh! don't mention hot pixels, I only just got the camera.

BTW Josh, that light isn't on Treasure Island, it's a casino billboard I think, it's just past the toll booths.

Gary, your panoramas are always worth seeing. I love the fog in this one.
Thanks Tim.

Well done my friend - reminds of what after Armageddon might look like.
Thanks Dave, are you planning to be around after Armageddon then?

I think these are better then the earlier set you posted. Very good! I also favour the second colour version, as it seems to bring out the light rays and their nuances better. Oh, you do tempt me to import these and elongate them ;-)

JMR
Edit- OK Gary, here it is. I don't think I have improved on yours though. What your image really needs, of course, is a huge screen or a very large print. Note I cloned out the large purple monitor that drew attention to itself.

That's a very cool pano! So much going on there and love the variations of light/dark!

Thanks JMR, go ahead, I have a tendency to stretch them too much, maybe you have more restraint than I.

Gary, that is a great pano of the Bay area! The clouds coupled with the rays of sunshine is wonderful.

Great work - did you handhold or tripod this shoot?

Regards,
Marc

Thanks Marc, I have to use a tripod because I was using the 28-399 at the long end. There is a tall tree between me and the bay and I have to zoom past it.

Another spooky, "after the aliens did their worst" SF picture from you, Gary. Very imaginative, as always.

My daughter has been offered a couple of postdoc positions at Stanford and she's returning to the area for an interview with a third prof early next week; she also has a tentative offer at Berklee (depending on grant money). So, since her boyfriend is also at Stanford, my guess is that she'll end up in your neck of the woods - as will I when I visit her.

What a beautiful place; I remember sailing on the bay (windy as stink) and tacking out beyond the bridge into the Pacific - a terrific experience (and I had no camera!).

I like it, I think you went further than I would have done.

I'll be glad to hook up with you if you're ever down here Jer but hold up a minute. JMR did the 'alien' thing this time, honest.

You know, Gary - maybe it was JMR that flashed by the inauguration in the video I saw a while back in the General Talk forum. Originally, I thought that was Joe the Plumber, but maybe not . . . . . . . . . the truth is out there.

This is a great photo, Gary. I love that sky!

The mood is wonderful, but I *really* want to see a *big* version of it to do it justice
