A different look at Hong Kong
Posted By: Mallee Boy, 03-18-2009, 05:16 PM

The many faces of Hong Kong, its a bustling vibrant place but we are fortuneate to see another side of it, as well as some of the regular, expected, scenes.
Shot with either K200 or K20 & a variety of lenses. exif should be intact.
Cheers.

and some more. The haze is real, nothing to do with the lens

Wow, what a nice series! The night shot is terrific, and . . . . as you mentioned . . . . your shots give a very different picture of Hong Kong than what we see in the movies. Thanks.

Nice shots. The first three were taken whilst hiking on Lantau island? I think I see the airport in that second photo...

Shame about the haze though.

Nice work Grant, it's true, most of us only think of Hong Kong as being covered with skyscrapers.

Well i think something like 40% of Hong Kong is reserved as parks and nature reserves. I'm looking forward to going back there.

Nice series.

Yes, very nice series--thanks for showing me Hong Kong. Being a hiker, I'm especially fond of your third shot.

No kidding, I never dreamed such was the case. I've never been to Hong Kong, but I dearly loved John LeCarre's verbal portrait of the city and area in "The Honorable Schoolboy". I particularly enjoyed his description of a "typhoon Saturday."

The spot you are standing on is supposed to have the best Feng Shui.

Thanks for looking Jer,
Glad you enjoyed them. If you ever get the chance to visit HK...do so. It is an amazing place.

Hi Dave,
The Rope.

Thats more about me trying to be not quite so predictable with my photography. As I am still not comfortable taking shots of people.... the rope was it !!

The air quality was OK for Hong Kong, it can get very acrid and thick when the factories over the border get going and the wind is behind them. I think this was more a mist than smog. Clear blue sky days do happen, but are not the norm (from my experience anyway).
Cheers
Grant

Yes, we hiked from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo (Lantau Isl) for lunch and then caught the ferry back to DB. Took us about 4 hours, but we were not the fastest, with my wonky knee, a baby & a toddler it was steady going.

The first bit was the hardest, climbing 480 metres in 1.3 km, but enjoyable none the less. I will post a few more shots of the hike later.

And yes that is the airport in the background.

Cheers
Grant
