More Crane pictures for your viewing pleasure
Posted By: jbrowning, 03-23-2009, 08:00 PM

I traveled to Monte Vista again this last Saturday and came away with these pictures. All were taken with the Pentax K20D with the Sigma 50-500mm

I first thought I was going to see cranes like in the harbour, but these are actually the original cranes, that gave the name for some machines too!

Good series, must have been a wonderful experience to be there!

Thanks gawan, I love watching and hearing these birds. Next time I'm there I will have to try and record their sounds somehow.

Thanks
Jim

JB, IF I may make a suggestion. From looking at the images they looked a tad washed out. Looks like you fell victim to the sun. I looked at the EXIF on one of them and believe that had you went -3 to .-7EV you would have captured some vibrant images. I don't have a problem with the ISO at 800 as the K20D really handles the noise pretty good...

But it is a cool series and I know sometimes we have to take what we can get. I like the second one. I think if you raised the contrast and lowered the brightness a tad, you will have a real winner there...

Thanks jgredline, I was hoping the polarizer would take care of the extra sunlight and bring out the colors. I was also underexposing the shots using the shutter speed. Tell you the truth I haven't messed with the ev compensation button.

Thanks
Jim

They estimated there was about 2000 cranes there this last weekend. The weekend before that there was about 5000 cranes there.
