Child with Some Chalk
Posted By: Sailor, 03-25-2009, 12:17 PM

Here are three images of my granddaughter - in a state of absolute delight - as she plays with a few pieces of "driveway chalk" - testimony, if any were needed, that simple pleasures are the best (unless we're talking about the latest photo gear, of course).

Technically, these pictures are not particularly good; they were taken in the dim light of late afternoon. Also, although Claire appears static in these photos, she is anything but (something that those with experience of 4-year-olds will understand completely). Normally, when I photograph Claire, I set ISO to 400 or even 800, to allow the optimum shutter speeds/f-stop combinations necessary to both mitigate against the constant motion and provide maximum DOF. Yesterday, I left the camera at ISO 100; thus, Claire's semi-soft look in these shots.

Nice child! It drew a surprising picture -it is "Snegovik", so we name him and make out of snow.

Gotta love the expression in the last one. You're so lucky that she lives so close to you. My grandson lives in WA, and I live in VA, and I only get to see him in person twice a year (at best). I do see him via webcam, but it itsn't the same. His grandmother makes sure that he sees a lot of grandpa's $$$.

Thanks, man. We don't see much snow around here and have to build our snowmen without the white stuff.

We're lucky, indeed. My daughter, her husband and Claire live only about three blocks away, so while we don't see her every day, we are with you often. I understand fully about Grampa's $$$!.

Thanks, JIM. She's a cutie . . . . . although I'm obviously biased.
