What kind of lizard is this?
Posted By: SouthShoreRob, 03-25-2009, 07:47 PM

So we took the kids to the nearby Colasanti's family hangout: food, rides, plants, and a small zoo / petting area. Anyways, this good size guy was behind his glass but came out to pose for me when he saw the newly purchased DA 16-45mm affixed to my K20D. Needless to say, I'm quite happy with the shot, but would like to know a little more about his species; lizards not really being my cup of tea.

Thanks for looking / commenting.

It might be a species of iguana, but I'm not sure.

Rob,

If you live near Colasanti's, you must live in Essex, Chatham or Kent counties. Leamington is just a short ride from Chatham, Windsor, Sarnia, or Point Pelee.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that is an Iguana, and that is a great shot of him. I love the irredescent colors of his scales.

Could also be a Eastern Water Dragon

It is either an Iguana as the others have said, or it could be an eastern water dragon...

either way it is a good shot of a beautiful lizard

-edit- the more I look the more I agree with Iguana... but I do love me some Water Dragons too...

Yeah thanks guys; come to think of it, I believe there was a info sign indicating it was an iguana. For some reason (late and tired), I just couldn't think of it.

Indeed I am in Essex County and so naturally, Colasanti's is a regular once a year or every other year, stop on the family to-do list. Great times there both as a kid, but also now as a parent.
