True Happiness...
Posted By: Igilligan, 04-04-2009, 10:46 AM

Happiness is finding the 'look' you love in an old lens....

A couple from my first day with the Russian Tair 135 2.8 (some were posted before in the lens thread - apologies)

A pic of the lens and the 20 blades...

Thanks Ole

Even stopped down, the 'perfect circle' makes for some nice background looks.

BTW Gus, that's a beautiful diaphragm - and it looks like it has two rings, is it a preset? That second shot (first if you exclude the shot of the lens itself) is my favorite - love that oof flower on the top right.

The out of focus elements appear very soft and seem to have a halo quality attached to them, like a soft lens photrapher used to use in portraiture. Oh, you really are smitten.

Josh it is a preset and a very nice preset... no push/pull like the helios. Very easy to use and to quickly bump up if need be. I also like how that oof flower came out too... in fact I went past this in thumbnail three or four times and was not even going to PP it... then when I finally opened it full size, the OOF area framed the sharp little flowers so nicely and that flower in the top right is softly glowing... Did I say I liked this lens?

Thanks Dave, I should have some time tomorrow... I had another lens I was shooting just to try out, but it is time to put the Tair back on the camera.

Smitten is the perfect word... I would say Love, but I have been accused of dropping the L-word at a drop of hat... so smitten it is!

Sorry to lower the tone of your thread Gus... not

Here are those same lyrics as perceived by the hard of hearing.

A *****, a *****, the greatest gift that I possess
I thank the lord that I've been blessed
with more than my share of a *****
