New (to me) K10D - first shots!

New (to me) K10D - first shots! · 02:43 PM

On Friday evening I found a screamin' deal on a used K10D locally, an upgrade from my beloved *istDL... [insert shameless plug] which is now for sale in the Marketplace.

The subject matter may look familiar, as it was back to the lavender bush this morning to take pix of some BEES:

#2 (lil' bugger was hard to get in focus)

#4 (i followed him to another bush)

#5 (the "end")

The lens is my very inexpensive Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro (locked at 300mm), which looks like a million bucks AND keeps me well away from a would be sting-fest.

...and big thanks to Gary D. for helping me keep my cool while shopping for the cam...and again after finding out the seller had been less than honest about the true # of shutter clicks

Great shots Mike! Looks like you have a spot of sensor dust though, very visible at the top of the first three images..

thanks...i didn't even notice, what with all the spots on my monitor; i'll take care of that right away.

Nice work Mike, I can see you're enjoying the K10. They are all good but I really like the composition of #3.

The first 3 are great. I think the last 2 don't fit in this row. The last two have the focus on the wrong place and the back of the bee is not very interesting.

But again: The first three are great. The colours and the contrast are great. Which lens did you use?

Thanks everyone, and Cor, you are right about those last two shots...the bee in flight was just too fast for my manual focusing attempts. I need practice.

The lens is a sub-$100 Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL "Macro" using the macro setting at 300mm. For a cheap lens, it sure performed well in this series, i'd say.
