Sleeping Swan
Posted By: JMR, 04-05-2009, 06:12 PM

"The lion sleeps tonight...weembo eh..." you know the song. Well another creature sleeps tonight, the mute Swan. It was cold and damp by the lake and the swan lay huddled with his neck tucked in and never once looked up as he floated on the water. It certainly makes me wonder how he could survive.

Edit- added another, a last dusting of snow in HIgh Park representing the Last of Winter. I think it works well because of the balance in the distribution of white.

Nice framing a very serene shot - could be hung in a doctors office to promote tranquility

Thanks Dave, and I will as soon as get a hold of your new K20D!

Thanks, I appreciate that you labeled the image in that way. As graceful as the swans are when upright and floating, the turned position was the only one that showed his beak and graceful neck.

Thanks Gary. It's that monotone colours that drew me to the composition and suggested the loneness of the swan against the breakwater and horizon.

I have added a second BW image of the same evening. Although it has a wonderful ambiance, I do not regard it as appealing as the first image because the neck and beak is hidden, and thus a sense of the graceful beauty of the swan's head. But the image does convey the vulnerability and isolation of the swan.

Thanks. Yesterday the swans were doing a mating dance and I was too enthralled to take any photos.
