Experimental Portraiture
Posted By: HowLowCanYaGo, 04-07-2009, 06:03 PM

I've run across a neat method of portraiture recently and I've been trying it out, despite my limited lighting resources. The point of the subject is to bring out any and all blemishes, creating a completely natural (unaltered) image. The only thing done here is a crop and level adjustment.

Opinions?

It's effective, I'll give you that. Would certainly be useful for forensic photography, are you planning a career in CSI?

That is a very cool look.

I think its a great shot too.

You'll need brave subjects to let you show them 'warts n all' but the results are compelling.

I'd love to see some older people with this method. Some older folks where you can bring every bit a character and life out of their faces.

Be well,
joe

Nope, no career in CSI planned thus far. Thanks for the opinions.

Thanks! It seems people who understand art and aren't so obbsessed with their looks are the best targets. I've actually done one old person (45-50 yrs) so far.

Gritty stuff - well done. After all, most of us are far from blemish free.

I think I have seen similar photos. I remember seeing a series that was done in a nursing home with the same 'raw' lighting and look. meant to express the true look and feel of being 'of age' so to speak.

I hope I didn't come across as facetious. My comments were meant to be complimentary.
The whole point of crime scene photography is to portray things exactly as they are, on that level you really nailed it.

I can't post without a little humour though. Is that a booger I can see?

LOL! If you consider 45-50 to be old, then you might consider me to be ancient, as I will be 66 in May.

This technique wasn't developed by me in anyway. There is a certain world-famous photographer who kind of touches on this type stuff.

I should have said I have previously shot someone showing a lot of age in their face.
