first automotive shoot

Lens: kit 18-55mm

I really want some honest comments because I want to improve. I plan to shoot again this weekend with my new Tamron 70-300mm, and my newly refurbished M- 55mm f/2.

Second picture, the car isn't in focus, the graffiti is. I'd use a larger aperture to blur out the background. Also move the car forward a bit to get righ of the light pole. The pictures are too dark. When shooting cars even when going for the dark look, I like the car to be lit even when it's dark by maybe a light post or lamps or flash. Just my opinion though...

Thanks for the advice. I will take it to heart and try some of your suggestions this weekend.

I don't shoot cars, but here's some advice...

First shot:
- Looks awesome. I love the angle and what appears to be late afternoon light.
- I wouldn't crop so much to the left, I would have taken the shot on a night with a more dynamic sky, and I would have probably turned the front wheels a little bit to the left - so we see a bit more of the front rims. I really like the shot though.

Second shot:
- I like the reflection on the car and the background choice.
- I'd avoid the light standard as suggested above. I'd also move the car so that it was lower in the frame. Right now I'm seeing too much road that doesn't do anything for the photo. Use your rule of thirds for a more dynamic look.

You may also want to go for a touch more overall contrast. I tend to process more natural, like these shots, however autos in high contrast can look really sharp.

Hope this was helpful.

Good stuff! I'd love to see some more of your work.
