Darling Harbour Sydney - a watery essay
Posted By: MoiVous, 04-10-2009, 07:07 AM

My FA50mm f1.4 arrived on the day I was to travel to Sydney for a conference. Having a few hours to spare before proceedings began, I took my new toy and walked around Darling Harbour.

Coming from a city in the grip of drought, the water splashing around me inspired a series of watery images to take home........

This channel runs to the harbour, with a series of fountains at the start. Someone pointed out to me that the M shaped fountain was next to a certain fast food chain.....

The same channel, but shooting back. The shallow DOF of the FA50mm leaves only the front of the image sharp. This doesn't work as well as the previous image IMHO

Getting closer to the low fountains gave me a chance to freeze the water and enjoy the sharpness of this lens along with the shallow DOF too....(this now graces my desktop )

And to finish the watery theme - a shot of a spiral steps cascading and rippling the water that kids couldn't keep out of!

To finish this off, a couple more images - but not watery!!

These stainless steel tubes are part of a sculpture with two horns of tubes like this. I wasn't taken by the overall piece, but the tubes against the sky compared to the straight skyscraper behind really caught my eye......

As did these lights that line the promenade.....

I think this lens will be sitting on my camera a lot!!

Cheers

Nice series! I like the cascading water steps photo most! Good composition and an abstract-ish nature!

Nice series. They do seem to have a lot of water in NSW.

Thanks Georg - I like it too and thought the lines and curves made an abstraction. Its almost monochromatic too.

Thanks Mithrandir - much appreciated. Indeed the lens is lovely. I used it again today along with the Travelling Nifty Fifty (thanks to RobA_Oz and Adrian Owerko) - so more images to come!

Ta Richard. The water in NSW makes those of us living in drought very envious. All of our fountains and water features have been turned off for the last 12 months. Its quite sad.

Nice shots, Chris. You and the FA50 are going to make a great team.
