Magnolia - some pics with the DA 70 Ltd.
Posted By: Rense, 04-12-2009, 03:16 PM

Made the day before yesterday. I only own the DA70 for some days now, but I like this lens very much! The 3 photos were all made with the lens wide open. Straight out of the box, no PP, exept some minor cropping in #3.

It's the best Magnolia year for several years, because of the long winter. It caused a late blossom, and therefore the flowers are not damaged by late night frosts.

Iced, James, thank you both. I think this lens would do a great job in street photography, but then, in my home town, street photography is not the most interesting, especially not during these holidays, when there are hardly any people out. So, I have to stick to this kind of images for a while.....

The DA 70mm does an amazing job with flora; the magnolias are starting to blossom here and you can see every detail of the furry outside when shot with that lens!

Very nice shots Rense, but why no pp? A little more contrast & brightness would do wonders.

Thank you! Why no pp? Because they looked fine, but once exported and uploaded, they became a little dull indeed. And now I'm trying to find the cause of this all, but I can't find it. Colour space doesn't seem to do too much, and I don't realy know what could be wrong with it..... I will look further....

I realy don't know why the colours of the magnolia flowers change in the uploading process. I try one as attachment....

EDIT: after all it is a colourspace issue.... the two photos below are in sRGB (the upper) and AdobeRGB (the lower). The upper one resembles reality much more!!

Nice images, Rense. We have a Magnolia in our front yard - stays green all year around, but only occasionally produces blooms.

Thank you Jer. There are many species, I've seen several wintergreen species in Mediterranean Botanical gardens in Italy (e.g. Magnolia grandiflora). But here, we have only two or three deciduous species in gardens.
