The pics we post in the forum - Is it just me or...
Posted By: alexeyga, 04-17-2009, 03:10 PM

I've been on the forum for a while now and there is something that started bugging me and is getting worse...

Pretty much all the examples of photos we see in most topics can be easily put in few categories:

1)Kids with gunk under their nose

2)Flowers

3)More flowers...

4)Birds

5)Pets

6)More freaking flowers....

I understand that nobody has the same taste, etc... But how about posting some real-life stuff? I just have hard time believing that there is nothing else to show but these damn birds and flowers!!!

Hey you all forgot an important category!

What about a category near & dear to all our hearts?

It's a subject that combines glamour & titillation, makes the heart beat faster, causes sweat glands to activate, and saliva to run.

Feelings of arousal are optional.

Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about: LENS PORN.

I've posted images jus' recently showin' the G20 protests and my homelessness project.
I understand what your sayin' to some degree. But I don't complain. Maybe you should post some of your alternative images to break up this trend then.

I'd like to see 'em.

Well, that's it for me I guess. I will have a hard time showing my buddies any of my photo's in fear of turning you off this site! Crap, for me its a damn hobby and over the year I have seen 1000's of photo's [with a %'s now on PPG] Are they all magazine quality.. no. Are they all my cup of tea, no but to anyone posting its done for many reasons. One, to learn and improve from others on this forum. Secondly, to show off what we like. Not everyone has to open a thread [and believe me not many open mine] or comment when they look. [I think the average comment is 1-2% on photo's posted] well enough said. I need to review my future posts! Thank you for commenting. JIM

Ironically, yesterday I was struck by the eclectic nature of photos showing up on the forum - rather the opposite of the thesis of the OP. I'm looking forward to contributions from the OP that will further add to the mix.

Bring them on! Shoot. Just go ahead and describe them... Toss it down. Bet more than a few would entertain an off beat challenge...

Looking forward to seeing your contributions...

Guilty as charged, I have posted kids, (no gunk under their noses though) flowers, birds, macros of different critters and the odd landscape. Some were better than others, none were masterpieces. So far you have not posted one single image, why don't you start showing us what you like and take pictures of instead of whining about what everyone else is posting.

Heinrich, you've shamed me. So I must confess I've posted photos of my granddaughter that contained nasal discharge. I'll try to do better next time.

As the "tasteless" few mock away (probably because the list included what they like to shoot most often) the OP does have a point. Unfortunately though...Pentax brand is an enthusiast brand and these are subjects most often shot by enthusiasts. So like it, or lump it, you're gonna have to put up with flowers and birds if you want to hang here.

P.S. As noted before post some of your stuff to break the trend.

Larry, I really like what you've done with this photo, yet something about it just doesn't add up . . . . . . . .

A glance at his profile indicates he is currently online viewing a thread in the marketplace as I type this. So he's still around. Whether he will further participate in his own whiny thread or not remains to be seen.
