Another K20 shot at 1600 ISO
Posted By: Jimbo, 04-19-2009, 11:50 AM

Ok, I took two shots yesterday pushing the ISO up to 1600 to compare my K10. I am so impressed with the high ISO capability of this camera, so far. I know it will open alot of wildlife shots up for me that were not there with the K10 as iwill feel very comfortable shooting at 1000-1200 ISO if needed for shutter speeds. I was warned this is a big jump up with the K20 sensor. Well, you were all right and I only wish I would have jumped in months ago, though the K10 has served my well as it will my daughter now. Cheers JIM

Thanks Dave. It is alwyas nice to see how far one can push the camera. Normally wouldn't use 1600 ISO but at least I know it is a option where it wasn't with the K10. JIM

Got a call from customs and they had to open it to confirm contents. Seems the US custom guys prefer Canadian beer. I will have to find a different way to get that dozen to you. JIM

PS: And yes you did warn me bud about the K20. JIM

Thanks Tom. This type of duck had been photographed so many times. I was just testing the K20 for the first time to see how the ISO preformed. JIM

Nice job, and very convincing test of the high ISO in real life situations.
Hopefully I'll be able to get one, maybe by the end of the year, used if I have to.

Great shot Jimbo, i found ISO800 or 1600 with the K10D to be used only if absolutely necessary... however there are several occasion where i've gone up to ISO3200 and am surprised about how good the result is on the K20D and i'm regularily shooting from ISO400 to ISO1600 with the K20D

I agree, the ducks show off the magnificent grain that iso1600 has on the k20. I've been limiting my photos to 400 and slower, but I think now is the time to branch out and try some low light and intentionally grainy photographs. Thanks for the inspiration Jimbo!

I find at around 800 my K10 gets really grainy. So far so good with the K20. I think I am going to love this camera!. jIM

The mallard duck has such great details and colours.

This is hard to believe that high ISO can render such quality at all.
